Lady is due in about ten days so we are giving her a little time to acquaint herself to the planned nesting and whelping area! Monday she will have an X-ray to see how many puppies she has. This should be an accurate count of the number of puppies. She has been bathed and clipped to prepare for whelping!

Puppies!!! (We hope!!!)
Lady came into season a month earlier than expected! We bred her to Mondo on November 25th so will be checking by Sonogram for puppies right around Christmas!
We will keep you posted on those results!
If she is pregnant with puppies the ultrasound will give us an estimate on the size of the litter.
We also know that Mondo carries black and brown color, as does Lady so we may see one or two brown pups.
Please call or email if you are interested in a puppy so you can schedule a visit to meet our standard poodles!

Reny...No puppies.
Reny, after attempting to breed her over her last two cycles, developed a uterine infection, pyometra. We decided to have her spayed last Friday as she was becoming quite ill with the infection and the alternative treatment did not seem like a good option.
We are very sad that we will never have any puppies from Reny, but think we did what was best for her. We want her to be with us for a long time. She is recovering at home and appears to be getting better every day.
On a brighter note, we are fortunate to have Reny's sister, Lady, who is quite a beauty and very sweet in temperament, to breed next Spring. She just turned two in June, so we will start her pre-breeding tests very soon.
Here is a picture of Lady as a puppy! We will be posting more pictures of her on our website "The Parents" page very soon.
Interestingly, Lady carries the gene for Black, White and Brown hair color, so we may see black and brown pups if we mate her to Mondo (a Champion we co-own with Victoria Law at Luminary Standard Poodles) or all three colors if we mate her to Questo, Mondo's Grand Champion brother!
We love these beautiful animals!

Bella, You are a lucky girl to have owners who acted quickly when you developed GDV!
Bella developed GDV (Gastric dilation and volvulus) commonly known as bloat with stomach twisting.
Common signs of bloat are restlessness and pacing, drooling, apparent discomfort, retching, unsuccessful attempts to vomit, and enlarged (bloated) abdomen.
Bella had several of these signs and her owners took her immediately to the vets for treatment and surgery.
If you own a standard poodle, PLEASE read about this condition and be prepared to act quickly. Talk to your vet about current preventive measures and treatments of bloat. Know your vets office hours and have an emergency clinic that you trust as a backup for off hours.
GDV is a life threatening condition...your dog can go from healthy to gravely ill in a matter of hours.
Here are some preventive measures that are believed to help. Feed 2-3 smaller meals a day rather than one large feeding, include wet food in your dog's daily diet, feed from a dish on the floor (NOT raised) and avoid exercising heavily before and after meals.
Some owners choose to have elective surgery on their poodles to prevent the stomach from twisting..it is called "Gastropexy" or stomach tacking.
Below is one place you can check out for more information:
Here is a picture of Bella recovering at home.
Get well quickly Bella and we hope you are up and playing VERY soon!
